Got buddies?

Add friends and family to your Kiwi Mobile plan and save!

You’ll all get your own data allowance and control over your own plan - no sharesies.

Buddy up

Add buddies, and you each get your own data and plan.

If two people on one account are on the Choice or Choice As plan, both will get $0.15 off each data tier per day.

If three or more people on one account are on the Choice or Choice As plan, they will get $0.30 off each data tier per day.

Add a buddy at any time in your app or online account.

The Choice Lite plan will not receive any discount.

Our buddies are better

Every buddy gets their own call, text and data allowance, and everyone's usage can be different and change month to month.

That means you are not all paying more if one of you is data hungry.

Buddies info

How do I add buddies?

You can add buddies at any time via your app or online account. You just provide your buddy's name and email, and we send them an invite to join your billing account.

Is there a limit on how many buddies I can have on my account?

Currently you can add up to four buddies to your billing account.

Can I see all buddies on an account?

The Primary Account Holder will be able to see basic details of all buddies linked to their account, but the buddies themselves won't have access to that info.

How does a primary account holder remove a buddy?

This can be done by contacting us at live chat. Note that the buddy would be given a two day notice/grace period before they are removed from your buddy account to give them time to make alternative arrangements. If there is a special situation requiring their access to be stopped immediately, please feel free to discuss with the team.

What happens to a buddy when they are removed by a Primary Account Holder?

We will contact them by email to let them know and to help them make alternative arrangements.

How do the savings work when I add buddies to my account?

For each Buddy connection that is successfully set up and if you are both on the Choice Plan or Choice As Plan, you, as the Primary Account Holder will receive a discount based on the number of Buddy connections on the Choice/Choice As Plan on your account.

If you are on the Choice or Choice As plan and:

  • One Choice/Choice As Plan Buddy is added, both connections get a discount of $0.15 per day.
  • There are two or more Choice/Choice As Plan Buddies, all connections receive a discount of $0.30 per day.

Remember, the Choice Lite plan isn't eligible for this discount.

Will buddies be able to use the app?

Definitely! Once they join (if they're not an Electric Kiwi customer already) they will be sent log in details for their account. If they are a current customer for power or broadband, their mobile account will be added to their current app (provided they sign up with the same email address we already have).

Who is responsible for paying buddies charges?

The primary account holder is responsible for all charges that buddies linked to your billing Account incur, including plan charges, add-ons, roaming, international and premium calls and service charges. These charges will appear on the Primary Account Holder's invoice.

Can I restrict how many tiers a buddy can level up to?

Not yet! But it's something we hope to have available in  future.

What if my buddy doesn't have an email address?

Ideally you'll have them create a free one with many of the providers available (gmail is most common), but if not - contact our team and they will be able to help and explain any limitations.

What if I am under 18?

If you are under 18, you can only join as a buddy linked to a Primary Account Holder - you must be 18 + to become a Primary Account Holder.

Can I bar a buddy from incurring any further charges?

You can contact us on live chat to bar a Buddy's number. Barring (suspending) a number will restrict all services on that phone number, and will ensure that no one has access to rack up charges for that number. When a buddy's connection is barred, plan fees and Add-ons (if the Buddy has them) will continue as normal while the number is barred. A buddy can also bar their own connection at any time and should do so if their mobile is lost or stolen.

What information about a buddy's usage can a Primary Account Holder see?

Primary Account holders can request a record of all calls and text messages made to/from a Buddy's connection (but not the content of calls, texts or internet usage).

If I am already a Kiwi Mobile customer and become a buddy, what happens to my existing charges?

You'll still be responsible for any outstanding charges on your account from before you became a Buddy.
